If you're like one of the many women who consumes cannabis on a regular basis, you may find yourself pregnant or breastfeeding and brimming with questions about continued use of cannabis, the pros and cons, etc.

This is where your Canna Doula comes in.

A Canna Doula is a cannabis friendly doula that assists people in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, fertility, and/or end of life care.

Here are some reasons why you should hire a CannaDoula:

#1 You need a safe space.

This is very important. If you already use cannabis, you are going to want a doula who is not judgmental of your use. Whether you continue use during pregnancy or not. You are going to want to have a safe space with your doula to discuss cannabis use. The last thing you want is some judgy doula lecturing you or worse, reporting you for cannabis use. It's your body and your beliefs have you need someone you can trust without fear of persecution.

#2 You need to know the benefits of use that tailor to your needs.

A cannabis doula will have lots of practice & experience in working with people going through the same thing you are. Be it pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, or end of life, they are going to know what methods of use best fit your needs. They can educate you on methods of use, how strains interact and factor in, what's safe and what isn't, give you benefit/risk information, and help you make informed decisions. With all of this, they can tailor to fit your specified needs.

#3 You have hyperemesis gravidarum.

You should hire a cannabis doula if you are suffering or may be at risk for hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). HG is characterized as severe nausea and/or vomiting, in some cases during pregnancy. It can be extremely debilitating and often leads to hospitalization. Cannabis is extremely effective as a antiemetic, appetite stimulant, and sleep aid. With recent study concerns with Zofran, more mothers are looking for safer alternatives to remedy this unbearable condition. Whole I don't expect any doctors will be prescribing cannabis to pregnant women want time soon, many women already know the benefits of cannabis use for this condition. Many women who've used Zofran and it failed, have turned to cannabis and the results are staggeringly positive. Some report it have them their life back, saved their life, or saved the life of their unborn child. We already know how dire it is a pregnant person receives proper nutrition, so inability to eat and keep down food and fluids is essential. Having a Canna Doula in this situation will assist you in knowing what method is best when you can't keep anything down or get queasy at the smell. A Canna Doula will be able to advise you on the different strains and educate you on the ancient use of holistic cannabis.

#4 Canna Doulas can help you understand your local and federal restrictions on cannabis

You don't know what you don't know. The cannabis laws, at least in the U.S. are confusing and contradict each other. You can't expect doctors and midwives to keep up with the latest THC drug testing laws. You can't trust them to obey them either. You can't trust the legal system will take your side, even in a legal state, because at the end of the day, federal law will always supersede. So you will need a canna Doula to inform you on how to be cautious, considerate, and well informed of your rights. Cannabis is still very sticky business and many mothers are anxious about the potential repercussions of use where the law is involved. If you can tell no one else you consume, you can tell your Canna Doula. They can offer you the likelihood of newborn testing, when to stop smoking/consuming to avoid a positive test at birth, whether or not it's worth the risk in your specific case (usually based on location, cannabis culture is vastly different in different places). BIPOC are at greater risk of being unlawfully tested and prosecuted. You should be informed to protect yourself with peace of mind, and your canna Doula can lend the hand.

#5 You plan to breastfeed

Chances are, if you plan consume cannabis while being a mother, you will wonder whether it's safe or not to use cannabis while breastfeeding. A Canna Doula can tell you whether or not it will effect your supply, whether or not it is transferred to baby, what do the studies say about it, and what's true and what's propaganda. A Canna Doula is the best person to seek answers from.
